The SAR-X modular bullpup rifle was specifically designed as a compact LEO-MIL intervention/interdiction weapon with a global focus. Without forgetting our roots, we wanted to develop a rifle platform that could serve multiple roles; working in both LEO-MIL operations and civilian precision paintball markets.

DESIGN It has been our desire to bring a bullpup to the paintball market since the company’s inception; however, deep thought had to be put into the mechanical placement of critical systems. Whether a bullpup or traditional rifle design, the biggest design limitation of an air rifle is the placement of the air system; however, after evaluating locations above, below, and to the side of the barrel, we opted to place it below. Additionally, our cross-platform upper receiver (shared with the original SAR-12/SAR-12C) has been mounted as far back on the shooter’s shoulder as possible. In doing so, we reduced the overall length of the rifle to 22 inches tip to tip (12/15 inch Nemesis barrel), and significantly reduced the cantilever weight that sits in the shooter’s opposite hand.

When we originally designed the SAR-12 back in 2009, it was designed with a slide trigger rather than a pivoting trigger found on most rifles. The reason for the slide trigger was two-fold; first, we needed the slide style to actuate the patented bolt assembly safety; and two, we wanted to future-proof the design for bullpup mechanisms. The bullpup trigger is housed in a channel that is parallel to the magazine well. The air line is also similarly routed on the opposite side of the magazine well.

The air system was designed with an integrated sliding on/off valve. This allows the user to keep the tank installed semi-permanently. Additionally, access windows allow the user to inspect the tank gauge pressures, along with filling the tank while it is installed on the marker.
